A GUEST on Antiques Roadshow was left speechless after an expert revealed the staggering value of his rare umbrella stand. The show ventured to Cawdor Castle near Inverness in Scotland - and a particular umbrella stand soon caught the eye of expert Steven Moore.
Soon into the programme, Steven feasted his eyes on an umbrella stand and said: “It is the most magnificent Wemyss Ware umbrella stand. “Trademark cabbage roses, but it is absolutely smothered with them.
It’s a showstopper piece.” The owner then revealed: “I’ve had it for the last nine years. I acquired it after my aunt died and she’d had it since 1943. “At a house where she was working, when the lady of the house died, she was offered some items from the house and this was one of the items she chose." After thoroughly examining the umbrella stand, Steven revealed it was likely made between 1890 and 1900.
However, when he moved on to the subject of value, Steven left the owner in a state of shock. He said: “Wemyss umbrella stands are rather rare and, if this came on the market, I think a comfortable auction estimate would be between £3,000 to £5,000." @font-face{font-family:'The Sun';src:url('/assets/fonts/the-sun/TheSun-Regular.woff2') format('woff2'),url('/assets/fonts/the-sun/TheSun-Regular.woff') format('woff'),url('/assets/fonts/the-sun/TheSun-Regular.ttf') format('truetype'),url('/assets/fonts/the-sun/TheSun-Regular.svg#') format('svg');font-style:normal;font-weight:400;font-display:swap;}@font-face{font-family:'The Sun';src:url('/assets/fonts/the-sun/TheSun-Medium.woff2') format('woff2'),url('/assets/fonts/the-sun/TheSun-Medium.woff') format('woff'),url('/assets/fonts/the-sun/TheSun-Medium.ttf').
