Anne Hathaway has said that the online backlash to her winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Les Misérables was “empowering”.
The star also won Best Supporting Actress prizes at the Baftas, SAG Awards and Golden Globes in 2013 for her performance as Fantine.
Her awards season success was followed by a lot of online abuse, and in a 2014 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Hathaway revealed she googled herself after the Oscars and discovered an article titled: “Why does everyone hate Anne Hathaway?”Bloggers have called her an “annoying theatre kid” while others criticised her for being disingenuous.
