Max Verstappen was audibly furious during the Barcelona Grand Prix due to intermittent DRS issues that saw him rant over the team radio on numerous occasions during his battle with George Russell.The Red Bull mechanics were working on Verstappen's rear wing prior to the start of the race due to an issue with DRS but were confident the issue was resolved prior to the start - though that proved to not be the case.Starting second on the grid, Verstappen was unable to overtake Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in pole position and a spin at turn four led to him being overtaken by George Russell and teammate Sergio Perez - though the Mexican eventually ceded his position.
Superb defending from Russell left the defending champion frustrated and his task to overtake the Mercedes man was made even harder by the fact he was suffering from intermittent DRS issues that prevented his rear wing from opening.That left Verstappen understandably furious and not happy with the messages from his team, with Christian Horner telling him on one occasion that they 'think you may have closed the DRS last time' to which he responded 'that's because I have to press it five f****** times'.
