Alton Towers has closed its water attraction after guests and staff reported feeling unwell. Police, ambulance crews and the fire service were called to the theme park after several people complained of eye and throat irritation.

Alton Towers amusement park has been closed for the winter break and is due to open in three weeks’ time. A water park - featuring slides, water cannons and pools - has been open daily from 10am-1pm, but park bosses took the decision to close around 1pm today.
