justjared.comIt was a historic night at the 2021 Academy Awards! A lot of firsts took place during the 93rd Oscars, which aired on Sunday night (April 25).
The 2021 Oscars already had historic nominations, with Steve Yeun becoming the first-ever East Asian American actor to be nominated for Best Actor, Riz Ahmed was the first Muslim actor nominated for Best Actor, and Chloe Zhao becoming the first woman of Asian descent to be nominated for Best Director.
This year’s ceremony also marked the first time two women were nominated for Best Director – Chloe for Nomadland and Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman.
