AFTER Life viewers were left open-mouthed after Ricky Gervais was seen looking "ripped" during an episode of the third season.

The Netflix comedy-drama returned for its third and final chapter on Friday, with Ricky returning as widower Tony Johnson. Still struggling to come to terms with his wife’s death, Tony is seen reminiscing as he watches old videos on his laptop in the second episode.

Tucked in bed with Brandy, his loyal German Shepherd, the journalist watches a clip of his wife Lisa secretly filming him. In the footage, Ricky can be seen sporting a tight black vest while letting loose on a punching bag at home - but those watching were more interested in his bulky biceps.

Fans were left stunned to see Gervais in such good shape - especially after the 60-year-old claimed he was “too fat and old” to film another series of the show last year.

'It's a slippery slope' Ricky Gervais fumes at Queen's New Year's Honours list
“It is nice to be involved and you know I have been part of them all my life.“It is always lovely to get nominated and awarded but if you take it too seriously you are on a slippery slope.“If you really think you are anything special when you win an award, you have just won an award, that’s all, out of a few people and you won the award, so what?”Addressing the Queen's New Year's Honours list, Ricky continued: “Same as these honour lists.“When I see actors and people getting MBE’s and OBE’s for doing something they love.“That should go to nurses and soldiers and people who have really sacrificed all their lives.”Ricky has been outspoken on his views surrounding a range of topics within the entertainment industry. He sent shockwaves throughout Hollywood after roasting some of the industry’s most famous A-Listers as he presented the Golden Globe Awards in 2020.However, the controversial stint marked his last presenting gig for the prestigious awards. That same year Ricky said 2020 would be his last year as the host.In a recent interview with LADbible Ricky said he told the event organisers never to ask him back. The quick-witted comic explained that he feared he would cave and say "yes".Ricky said: "It could be the Golden Globes could offer me 10 million for 10 minutes work, and I'd be an idiot, I'd be a liar, to say I wouldn't consider it."But at the moment, given I've done it five times, it got better and better for me - I enjoyed them all, but it got better - and I'm planning never to do it again."I've asked them not to ask me because I can be persuaded, that's true."You know, it's not a principle."

Ricky Gervais admits why he had to tell Golden Globes never to ask him to host again
Golden Globes 2022, former and probably most memorable host Ricky Gervais, 60, revealed he told ceremony bosses never to ask him to host again for fear he'd cave and say yes.The comedian made headlines across the world by fully roasted Hollywood a-listers as he took to the podium at the prestigious awards show, with his last in 2020 being the most prominent. But this year, the Globes took place a little differently with not a single celebrity in attendance, after being dropped by NBC following claims of corruption and a lack of diversity surrounding the event. After five years at the helm, the quick-witted comic admitted 2020 would be his last year, as his shocking and often controversial jokes left top Hollywood stars' cringing. And it seems Ricky has decided enough really is enough, as he revealed in a new interview with LADbible that he told the ceremony never to ask him back.He said to the publication: "It could be the Golden Globes could offer me 10 million for 10 minutes work, and I'd be an idiot, I'd be a liar, to say I wouldn't consider it."But at the moment, given I've done it five times, it got better and better for me - I enjoyed them all, but it got better - and I'm planning never to do it again."I've asked them not to ask me because I can be persuaded, that's true."You know, it's not a principle."Ahead of this year's show taking place, the seven-time BAFTA winner celebrated his viral humour by posting footage of the speech he'd made at the 77th annual awards, in view of his more than 14million Twitter followers. The ceremony has been slammed as racist after an exposé in the Los Angeles Times discovered that there was not a single black person in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which presents the

lockdown parties”.The Government came under fire after footage of Boris Johnson‘s former spokesperson Allegra Stratton showed her referring to a “fictional party” as a “business meeting with cheese and wine”.It now faces fresh backlash after a recently leaked email from the Prime Minister’s principal private secretary showed that Downing Street officials held a garden gathering during lockdown.Ricky weighed in on the controversy as he spoke to ITV News ahead of the release of the latest season of After Life on Netflix. The comedian said he understood how those who abided by the restrictions throughout the pandemic felt after the reports came out.He said on Tuesday: “I get it, I get the anger. It’s palpable.“Why wouldn’t they be angry?“Myself and everyone kept to the rules.“I think I’ve been naive all my life, it’s only now that I think… why do we trust them?“Of course we shouldn’t trust the people in charge, that’s how they are in charge.“They shouldn’t be trusted,” the actor concluded. Now Ricky is preparing for the launch of season 3 of After Life on Friday, but filming the last six episodes of the show has been filled with challenges. The production process was put on hold during the coronavirus pandemic and Ricky even admitted he was anxious over whether or not the new season would go ahead. The third season was initially announced in May 2020 after season two was released in April 2020.Nearly a year later, filming finally kicked off and wrapped in June 2021.Ricky himself confessed the uncertainty of the pandemic caused him “anxiety”.He told Deadline on Friday: “It was a year of anxiety, thinking whether it would it go ahead.”“But we didn’t drop a minute due to Covid,” Ricky continued.
