Addict hooked on meth at 13 is unrecognisable after getting clean – and can walk again
dailystar.co.ukdrug.Austin Greene, who lives in Ohio, US, first dabbled with toxins at 11-years-old when he tried alcohol and marijuana.He was desperate to fit in with friends but never expected to "fall in love" with the feeling of being high.
It quickly led to a downward spiral for the now 27-year-old, who has battled with meth and heroin addiction ever since.But after temporarily losing his ability to walk and severing ties with his family, including his 8-year-old daughter Kayonnah, the dad knew he had to change his ways.Following a year of being clean, Austin is ready to talk about his road to recovery in an exclusive interview with the Daily Star.He explained: “My daughter's mother isn't in her life and I didn't want her to grow up without either of her parents.“Every single aspect of life has improved since getting clean.
I've rekindled relationships with family and my daughter that I so selfishly destroyed in active addiction.“Right before I got clean I would refuse to go see her and she knew when she did see me it was only long enough for me to get money to get my fix and then I would disappear for days on end.“Now, she lights up when she sees me.”Austin once saw himself as a “menace” to society where he would steal whatever he could to fund his drug habit.He said: “I would steal anything and everything that I could get my hands on that had any value.
I would lie to my family, telling them I needed money for food and used the money to get meth and heroin.” Not only has Austin been able to rekindle a healthy relationship with his young daughter, he feels physically fit too.While he was using, he lost the ability to walk as he contracted a severe yeast infection in his lower spine.
