Shoppers erupted into applause as staff stepped outside the store to wave before closing the shop forever. The retail giant collapsed into administration last year and reopened its physical stores after lockdown only to sell off its remaining stock.
Closing dates for several stores had already been announced, but now the remaining 49 outlets have a firm end in sight. By May 15, all Debenhams will close their high street shops for the final time in its centuries-long history.
