A love letter to the supermarkets that stayed open throughout the pandemic

Before the pandemic, visiting the supermarket was a means to an end. If I wanted to eat then I had to visit. I’d often actively avoid the bigger stores and opt for a quick wonder around the aisles of Tesco Extra or a Sainsbury’s Local, for example.

I preferred to “pick up what I fancy” on my walk from the station to home. I assumed if I bought ingredients in advance it would cage me.

I would be like a flower kept away from the sunlight or Elle Woods if she never attended law school - truly unable to reach my full potential because I’d gotten my jacket potatoes two days earlier.

I shudder at my ignorance now. I really had no idea. Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter.
