Ange Postecoglou was left in despair after failing his first major test as manager of Celtic. The Aussie watched in anguish as his team suffered a brutal extra-time exit at the hands of FC Midtjylland in their first Champions League qualifier.
Postecoglou’s agony was heightened by the fact his team had progression in their grasp and couldn’t see it through. Captain Callum McGregor ’s brilliant strike three minutes into the second period had the Scots on course for the next stage.
However, seconds after a big miss from sub James Forrest, Aussie international Awer Mabil equalised for Bo Henriksen’s hosts to drag the game into extra-time with both sides spurning terrific chances to clinch it inside 90 minutes.
