Dozens of armed police, riot officers, firefighters and paramedics attended the scene on Wednesday after reports that a man armed with an axe had climbed onto the roof of a home in Maple Close, Kearsley, at around 8.30am.

Concerned residents emerged from their houses, with some saying they were evacuated by police, as the incident continued well into the afternoon.
