I think it was ingrained in me from a very early age that this is not a safe world and we have to do everything in our power to stay safe.

From a young age, I was trained to be hyper-vigilant of my surroundings, carry keys in my hand, walk with purpose, check in with friends or family daily.I've noticed lately that I find myself subconsciously turning my engagement ring over or keeping my hand in my pocket as to not draw any unwanted attention.
